Back by overwhelming popular demand, Gunhild Carling returns to the Tucson Jazz Festival with the exuberant mix of swing, virtuosity, and showmanship that has made her one of the Festival’s most beloved performers. Known as Sweden’s “Queen of Swing,” Carling is a vocalist, bandleader, dancer, and astonishing multi-instrumentalist who moves effortlessly between trumpet, trombone, recorder, harmonica, bagpipes, and more—sometimes playing three trumpets at once. Her performances combine the spirit of New Orleans jazz, classic swing, and vaudeville with a joyful energy that makes every show feel spontaneous and completely her own.
Carling has introduced her singular style to millions through years of touring with Postmodern Jukebox, including vintage-jazz reimagining of contemporary pop, while also performing as a touring soloist with the Count Basie Orchestra. Her sold-out Birdland engagements and appearances around the world have established her as both a serious jazz musician and an irresistible entertainer.
