About The Artist

This dynamic program unites the fiery Afro‑Cuban piano tradition of Chuchito Valdés—heir to a legendary musical lineage that includes his father Chucho and grandfather Bebo—with the virtuosic Brazilian guitar of Grammy-nominated Diego Figueiredo, celebrated for his dazzling mastery of samba, bossa nova, and jazz.  Presented in Tucson’s stunning new venue La Rosa,  the concert promises an unforgettable afternoon of improvisational brilliance and cross-cultural artistry that will captivate audiences.

Diego Figueiredo

Brazilian guitar virtuoso Diego Figueiredo is a master of musical elegance. With a career that has taken him to more than 60 countries, Diego has enchanted audiences around the world with his breathtaking technique and irresistible charm on stage. Winner of the prestigious Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition, he has recorded over 30 albums and performed alongside legends such as Gilberto Gil, João Bosco, and jazz greats Larry Coryell, John Clayton, and Cyrille Aimée.

What makes Diego unforgettable is not just his dazzling command of the guitar, but the way he makes every performance feel intimate and joyful. Drawing deeply from Brazil’s rich musical traditions while weaving in jazz, classical, and contemporary influences, he creates a sound that is both sophisticated and soulful — music that speaks directly to the heart.

Whether performing solo or in collaboration, Diego brings audiences on a journey filled with warmth, romance, and rhythmic vitality. His concerts are more than recitals — they are celebrations of life, love, and the beauty of music without borders.

Chuchito Valdés

Carrying forward the legendary Valdés family legacy, Chuchito Valdés — son of Chucho Valdés and grandson of Bebo Valdés — has earned his own place among the great pianists of Cuba. With a style that fuses Caribbean rhythms, Afro-Cuban traditions, and the spirit of jazz, Chuchito creates music that is both electrifying and deeply soulful.

A former leader of the world-renowned Cuban band Irakere, Chuchito has thrilled audiences across the globe — from Havana to New York, Paris to Mexico City — performing at top festivals, concert halls, and clubs. Known for his dazzling virtuosity and boundless energy, he can ignite a stage with fiery rhythms one moment, then captivate with delicate sensitivity the next.

Drawing from son, danzón, Cuban timba, guaguancó, bebop, cha-cha-cha, and beyond, his music is a vibrant celebration of Cuban culture and jazz innovation. With roots in classical harmony and composition, Chuchito’s original works bring sophistication and excitement to every performance.

Whether leading his dynamic band or commanding the piano solo, Chuchito Valdés invites audiences on a journey that is at once joyous, passionate, and unforgettable.
