Fuego y Ritmo – Fire, Food, Music **Special Event**
Fire. Food. Music. Three things that have brought people together for generations come together under the Tucson sky for FUEGO y RITMO, a new Tucson Jazz Festival experience celebrating the flavors, rhythms and cultures of Tucson through food, fire and jazz.
At the center of the evening is fire. Chefs Travis Peters and Devon Sanner of S + P Creative will cook over live, open flame, with carne asada prepared over the fire pit at the heart of a menu inspired by Tucson, the Sonoran Desert and the creative possibilities of live-fire cooking. Rather than a traditional dinner, FUEGO y RITMO invites guests to experience the sights, aromas and energy of the cooking itself as part of the evening.
And while the fire is burning, the music will be moving. Hiram Perez’s Latin Quintet brings the rhythms of Tucson’s Latin jazz and salsa scene, while New Orleans’ New Breed Brass Band brings the second-line spirit, funk and unmistakable energy of the Crescent City. These aren’t simply two bands sharing an evening. They’re two musical cultures in conversation.
Come hungry. Follow the rhythm. Gather around the fire.
THE CHEFS — S + P CREATIVE
S + P Creative brings together Travis Peters and Devon Sanner, two chefs whose careers have helped shape Tucson’s culinary landscape. Both are Tucson City of Gastronomy Chef Ambassadors and founding members of the Gastronomic Union of Tucson, sharing a commitment to the people, ingredients and traditions that define the Sonoran Desert.
Sanner’s career has taken him from Janos and JBAR to Downtown Kitchen + Cocktails, The Carriage House and Zio Peppe, guided by an interest in global cuisine and food’s ability to express a sense of place. Peters, a Food Network champion and Iron Chef Tucson winner, built The Parish into a nationally recognized Tucson destination while drawing inspiration from his family’s deep roots in the region.
Together, S + P Creative brings thoughtful hospitality, culinary curiosity and a distinctly Tucson point of view to FUEGO y RITMO.
THE MUSIC
HIRAM PEREZ’S LATIN QUINTET
One of Tucson’s leading voices in Latin jazz, Hiram Perez is known to local audiences as the bandleader behind festival favorite Zona Libre. For FUEGO y RITMO, his Latin Quintet brings salsa, Latin jazz and irresistible rhythmic energy to this evening—a distinctly Tucson sound designed for an evening built around movement, gathering and fun.
NEW BREED BRASS BAND
Straight from New Orleans, New Breed Brass Band carries the city’s second-line tradition forward with a high-energy mix of brass-band jazz, funk, soul, hip-hop and Caribbean rhythms. A two-time GRAMMY®-nominated ensemble with deep connections to the city’s musical culture, New Breed brings the communal energy of New Orleans street music into the heart of Tucson.
