Southern Arizona-based guitarist Gabriel Ayala, a member of the Yaqui people, stands at the forefront of a new generation of Native American musicians, forging his own path across genres from classical and flamenco to his self-styled “JazzMenco.” With a Master’s Degree in Music Performance from the University of Arizona and a global touring résumé that includes performances at the Kennedy Center and the canonization of St. Kateri Tekakwitha before Pope Benedict XVI, Ayala’s artistry is both deeply rooted and internationally recognized.

In this special concert, Ayala will perform original solo compositions and be joined by Tucson-based pianist Khris Dodge, creating an intimate musical dialogue that celebrates tradition, community, and resilience. This performance is dedicated to Ayala’s son Melikos, who is undergoing treatment for a brain tumor—contributions to support the family’s medical expenses will be welcomed during the event.

Join us at The Century Room for a heartfelt afternoon of music that blends precision and improvisation, cultural heritage and contemporary expression—a unique opportunity for those who love jazz at its most soulful and sincere.
